The Old Modern Handicrafts 1829 Yellow Stephenson Rocket Steam Locomotive is a handmade iron model inspired by the early steam engine. The model has a 100% iron frame and metal wheels that roll, with painted and decaled insignia.
Details include an engine compartment, barrel, wheels, and a tall smokestack chimney. The exterior details are securely welded on. A seat and steering wheel are included, along with a detachable tender carriage that hooks on.
Stephenson’s Rocket was an early steam locomotive with a 0-2-2 wheel arrangement, built in 1829 at the Forth Street Works of Robert Stephenson and Company in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Built for the Liverpool & Manchester Railway’s Rainhill Trials, it won the 1829 competition to select a locomotive design for the railway. Though it was not the first steam locomotive, it brought together innovations that made it the most advanced locomotive of its day and helped shape locomotive design for the following 150 years.
