Tell me about the stone Also known as Brazilian Black slate due to its South American origins, Montauk Black is one of the darkest and most pure black natural stones on the market. It has a captivating depth to its face that will draw you in and leave you wondering how nature can create a pigmentation so rich and luxurious. Like most natural materials, there is a slight variation between slabs. A subtly variegated tonality can be seen throughout the stone, evidence of its natural origins. But this is what makes a natural stone so special, no two tiles will ever be identical.
Slate is an incredibly hardwearing and durable material. Around the world, it is often used for roof tiles and other applications that require a particularly hardy material. It is known for its ability to weather the storm, resisting the elements for years. Therefore, it is more than capable of handling the wear and tear of family life. It is suitable for high traffic locations, including kitchens and hallways and can even be used for external applications. But don't let its functionality trump the stone's main attraction, its super sleek and contemporary design. Montauk Black slate can also be used to create stunning fireplaces, feature walls, and backsplashes.
Tell me about the tile's finish For the ultimate in sleek and contemporary design, this slate has been honed. All bumps and ridges have been removed and it has been ground down until totally level. This creates a completely smooth, matte surface, just like a piece of refined charcoal.
Many people believe a honed finish creates a superior design, but the benefits are not limited to just style. There are also a few practical reasons why a honed finish is ideal for your home. Firstly, compared a gloss or polished tile, this matte surface has a higher degree of traction. This means it is suitable for bathrooms, hallways, and exterior applications that are likely to become wet and therefore may feel slippery. It's important to always consider the functionality of a floor tile - a honed finish provides sufficient protection against slips and trips.

It's also one of the more durable finishes on the market. There is little maintenance required to keep the stone looking its best, as it has an innately dull surface. A regular clean and periodic sealant top-up will be sufficient to keep the stone looking its usual self.
