The Raffaellesco Deluxe is a large round wall clock featuring the classic Raffaellesco pattern. It measures 13.5 inches in diameter and is about 1 inch thick. Its quartz clock movement requires one AA battery.
Among the enduring Italian majolica patterns, Raffaellesco traces its origin to the 16th century and the graceful arabesques of Raphael’s famous frescoes. The central stylized dragon was reputedly painted first by Raphael, a master painter and architect of the Italian High Renaissance. Raffaellesco is described as a benevolent deity bringing good luck and fair winds to seagoing merchants; the puffs of wind from the dragon’s mouth represent those winds.
