The Raffaellesco Traditional Deruta Biscotti Jar features a classic Italian majolica pattern. It measures 8 inches in diameter x 10 inches high.
One of the most popular and enduring Italian majolica patterns, Raffaellesco traces its origin to the 16th century. Its graceful arabesques are inspired by Raphael’s famous frescoes.
The central motif is a stylized dragon, reputedly painted first by Raphael, a master painter and architect of the Italian High Renaissance. Raffaellesco is a benevolent deity said to bestow good luck and fair winds on seagoing merchants; puffs of wind stream from the dragon’s mouth.
