The Redwood Bonsai Tree Three (3) Tree Forest Group features the Dawn Redwood, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, a true Redwood and a living fossil.
Native to Manchuria China, this species was thought to be extinct and rediscovered in the 1940's. Seeds were introduced in the U.S. in 1948, and it has become increasingly popular as an ornamental tree.
The foliage is more lace like than our native Redwood and, unlike our native Redwood, it is deciduous. In the fall, the light green sprays turn yellow, then bronze, and fall off. Keep outdoors.
