Tell me about the stone This deeply captivating Shark Skin limestone is a blend of dark grays. It's easy to see why this stone is so named, with a swirling mix of shades and a slight beige undertone Shark Skin limestone looks just like one of the ocean's largest predators.
It has an irregular stony pattern, created by its formation process. Limestone is created by layers of sediment build up at the bottom of a body of water such as a lake or ocean. Amongst the mineral particles are debris from aquatic sea and plant life which become trapped within the layers. Eventually, as the pressure causes the deposits to cement together, these fossils are preserved in the limestone, evidence of this beautiful stone's history.
Limestone is slightly porous and therefore it is recommended that you seal your stone tiles after installation. This ensures that stains are kept to a minimum, increasing their lifespan. In general, limestone is an incredibly durable stone capable of being laid in all manner of locations throughout the home, including high traffic areas such as hallways and kitchens.
Tell me about the tile's finish These tiles have a honed finish: the perfect balance of functionality and design. This is a totally smooth matte effect achieved by grinding the surface of the stone until completely flat. There are no further refinement steps, instead, the stone is left with a natural, satin effect. A honed finish is ideal for those looking for an understated design. Its matte surface creates a soft glow as opposed to reflecting the light harshly like a polished stone.
Furthermore, a honed finish provides sufficient traction, making it perfect for use as flooring throughout the home. Bathrooms and hallways are likely to become wet at some point, therefore they require a tiling solution with a slight slip resistance to prevent fall and trips. A honed finish, in this case, is ideal.
