History: The T-2 tanker was a class of U.S. oil tankers built during WWII to transport fuel across oceans. Over 500 were built, and they played a vital role in supplying Allied fleets during and after the war. Their design influenced future tanker construction, although several suffered catastrophic structural failures in post-war years.
