This dense evergreen features pointed, leathery, dark green leaves on stiff, symmetrical branches. It is unisexual, with male flowers in cones and female flowers made up of cylindrical thickened scales. The fruits are edible, pendiculate, fleshy, and brightly colored. New foliage appears light green and darkens with age.
Our tree is trained in the traditional bonsai style with a curved trunk and tiered branches. It grows very well, albeit slowly, indoors.
