Travertine is often confused with limestone, but this is a mistake that is not totally absurd. In fact, travertine actually has a similar geology to its creamy cousin, the primary difference being its creation under fast-moving water such as a hot spring. It is the gasses that are caught in the stone, caused by the rapid movement, which result in the tiny pits and holes that can be seen littered across travertine's surface.
This versatile stone can be used for a number of applications. It works great as flooring throughout the home, as well as for countertops, backsplashes, and walls. If the correct care and attention are given to this beautiful stone, there is no doubt that it will last for decades without the need for replacement.
Tell me about the tile's finish These tiles have a combination of both chiseled and brushed finishes. This results in a rugged, textured stone that appears almost antique. The process involves roughly carving the edges of the stone using a chisel to create a rough perimeter to the tile. The surface of the stone is leveled and then brushed using wire bristles to create a consistently textured surface. Travertine's pits and holes are retained, keeping its authentic character and charm. The tiles appear as if they have been reclaimed from a 16th-century barn house - but can be obtained for a fraction of the price.

One of the benefits of an aged tile is the low upkeep required to maintain its desired effect. Any wear and tear adds to the antique effect, rather than taking away. There is no regular polishing or buffing needed, a quick clean is usually sufficient to keep the stone looking its best.
